Lacrosse Phys Ed Classes to begin in Houston ISDs

USA Lacrosse is playing an integral role in spreading the game among Houston middle schools.

USA Lacrosse Representative, Kevin Finn, and USA Lacrosse Regional Manager, Jessie Paynter, are on another round of clinics for physical education teachers in the city of Houston. This time, for the ISDs of Aldine, Spring and Humble. Over 84 teachers came out for the summer professional development opportunity. Finn and Paynter discuss the history of lacrosse, the fundamentals of the game and even incorporate skill training for the teachers.

Paynter said, “If we can get a stick in their hands, we know they’ll enjoy it and will hopefully pass the enthusiasm onto the students. Ultimately, that’s what it’s about, exposing more students to the game that has done so much for us”.

Helen Wagner, who organized the professional development opportunity, said that this is a great step in the right direction for the sport in Houston. Many of the teachers really enjoyed the clinic and will look forward to including lacrosse in their curriculum this coming school year. USA Lacrosse provides sticks for clinics like these and to schools who are looking to implement lacrosse into their physical education classes.

Coach Finn and Paynter have worked with over 150 teachers throughout the city and suburbs of Houston in the past year.
